What is Cell Solution® Protection?
Cell Solution® Protection is a patented German fibre technology developed specifically for producing textiles with long-lasting insect protection.
Unlike conventional repellent garments, where protection is applied as a surface coating, Cell Solution® technology has the active ingredient permethrin integrated directly into the core of the fibre during the manufacturing process.
This means:
- slow and controlled release of the active ingredient,
- longer-lasting effectiveness,
- greater resistance to washing,
- less direct contact with high concentrations of the active ingredient on the fabric surface.
How does it work?
Permethrin acts on the nervous system of ticks and mosquitoes. When an insect comes into contact with the fibre, permethrin disrupts the transmission of nerve signals, causing loss of coordination and deterring or preventing further movement of the insect. This reduces the likelihood of a tick remaining on the garment or moving towards the skin.
It is important to note that the socks are not a medical device and do not guarantee complete protection against bites, but represent an additional protective layer during outdoor activities.
Why is this technology different?
Most repellent garments use a surface application of the active ingredient. With washing, UV exposure, and everyday use, such coatings gradually wear off. Cell Solution® takes a different approach: the active ingredient is stored inside the fibre and released onto the surface gradually. This means the protective effect is maintained significantly longer than with conventional impregnation methods.
Natural fibre base
The protective fibres are based on cellulose sourced from sustainably managed forests. The fibre base is regenerated cellulose, which enables:
- good moisture absorption,
- pleasant contact with the skin,
- effective regulation of body climate,
- greater wearing comfort compared to many synthetic materials.
How long does the protection last?
Cell Solution® Protection is designed for long-term use. Independent testing has demonstrated high durability of the protective properties even after repeated washing. Fabrics with Cell Solution® Protection technology have successfully passed demanding tests after 100 wash cycles at 90°C, including tests with Ixodes ricinus ticks and Aedes aegypti mosquitoes.
Is it safe to use?
Permethrin has been used for decades in protective clothing, mosquito nets, and other protective equipment worldwide. The World Health Organization (WHO) recommends the use of permethrin in textiles for protection against insect-borne diseases. Textiles containing up to 20% Cell Solution® Protection fibres meet the requirements of OEKO-TEX® Class 1, which also applies to textiles intended for the youngest users.
Important
oddklop socks provide an additional layer of protection during outdoor activities and do not replace other protective measures. After every visit to a forest, meadow, or other area with an increased presence of ticks, we recommend a thorough check of the body, clothing, and equipment. Early detection of a tick remains one of the most important measures for reducing the risk of infection.
